propranolol
- synthetic
- 10mg
- onset 1h
- half-life 3-6h
- felt it earlier than 1h
- bssically feels like when you are too exhausted to be nervous, so you aren’t, but you know you would otherwise, just w/o actually feeling exhausted
beta receptors
- they are signaling proteins
- normally adrenaline binds to trigger “go”
- propranolol is synthetically designed to be able to bind to them too -> be similar enough to adrenaline, but not similar enough to be recognized as adrenaline, so it can just sit there and basically do nothing
- its like buying the whole row of your plane seat just so there’s nobody that’ll fck u up, the seats could be taken, but you don’t want that to happen
- it blocks (-> beta blockers) the receptor from adrenaline and thus from reacting like it would normally do when adrenaline binds (pump up heart rate, blood pressure, etc)
